The Mont Fund

A Two-Step Process

Since we are not able to provide narrow guidelines for funding, we have developed a streamlined process for reviewing proposals that limits the amount of information we ask for during the initial phase.  We want to be respectful of your time, and we only want to know broad outlines of your project initially.  If we are interested in learning more about your project, we will begin a process that will include a phone interview and a full proposal.

We will review grants on a rolling basis.  We intend to make grants in the range of $75,000 – $150,000 in annual support to U.S.-based nonprofit organizations.  We will consider requests for multi-year support, but we will rarely be the sole donor to any project. We intend to support 10-12 projects per year.

initial inquiry:

If you believe that your program aligns with our goals, please send us a very brief (maximum 500 words) letter of inquiry. In this letter, please provide the following:

  • Legal name of nonprofit organization, EIN, and website

  • Answers to the following questions:

    • What is the problem you are trying to solve? If the problem is not widely understood, please provide a brief description that explains the impact and scale of the problem.

    • How do you propose solving the problem?

    • How is your approach innovative?

    • How easily can your approach be implemented? What would be required to bring your project to scale?

    • How does your approach improve the patient experience?

    • What is your project budget and how much have you raised?

At this time, we will not fund basic research. We also are less likely to support projects that are focused on a single disease. And while the bulk of our giving in the past has focused on reducing medical errors, we are looking to expand our giving beyond this vital area.

We will aim to respond to all letters within 4-6 weeks. If we find that we are unable to respond in this amount of time, we may suspend the process for receiving grant applications. We will announce on the website our intention to suspend the process several weeks before a period of suspension begins.

We will post on this website descriptions of selected new grants made in order to provide more information on what we are interested in supporting.

Please forward your letter to: Info@themontfund.org

During these early years in our grantmaking, we will be interested in learning about new approaches.  It is possible that in the coming years we will craft a uniting theme or focus for our giving.  Until then, we are mostly interested in supporting innovations that improve the patient experience and protect quality of life.

We thank you very much for your interest.
